Pay-television operator i-Cable and telco PCCW last week agreed to share Uefa Champions League rights in Hong Kong from 2018-19.
The joint deal will end i-Cable’s run of nine consecutive seasons as the Champions League’s exclusive broadcaster in the country. I-Cable has held exclusive rights to the Champions League since the 2009-10 season.
The new three-season deal, from 2018-19 to 2020-21, reduces i-Cable’s expenditure on the rights and grants Uefa greater exposure for its top club competition in Hong Kong.
PCCW will exploit the rights via its pay-television operator Now TV, which also holds exclusive rights to the English Premier League for 2018-19 only.
