Sport1 extends rights deal with ESPN

German sports broadcaster Sport1 has extended its media rights deal with US sports broadcaster ESPN through to the end of the 2017-18 season.

Sport1 US, a pay-television channel operated by Sport1, will continue to broadcast US National Collegiate Athletic Association American football and basketball games as well as the IndyCar US motor-racing championship. Sport1 US is available to subscribers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

NCAA coverage will comprise at least 130 live or tape-delayed basketball games, including regular-season matches and the NCAA Final Four end-of-season event.

Sport1 US will also broadcast at least 70 NCAA American football games on a live or tape-delayed basis. This will include regular-season matches as well as playoff semi-final and the National Championship Game.

Sport1 will also continue to broadcast all races from the IndyCar series on a live or tape-delayed basis. The 2016 season comprises 16 races.

Sport1 US also broadcasts coverage of the North American NBA basketball competition, NHL ice hockey, NFL American football and MLB baseball.
