Sport1 renews MotoGP agreement

Dutch pay-television sports broadcaster Sport1 has struck a two-year extension, from 2013 to 2014, for rights to the MotoGP motorcycling championship.

Sport1 will show live coverage of all qualifying stages and races from the top-tier MotoGP series, as well as the Moto2, Moto3 and MotoGP Rookies Cup developmental series.

Sport1 agreed the deal with MotoGP’s commercial rights-holder, Dorna Sports.

The broadcaster also has rights for the Formula One motor-racing championship for three years, from 2013 to 2015.

“Over the past two seasons, MotoGP has proven to be a real addition to our comprehensive sports package,” Sport1 vice-president Will Moerer said. “Starting this season, we are showing Formula One live on Sport1. Owing to the MotoGP and Formula One calendars being aligned, we can offer our viewers from March to November almost weekly MotoGP or Formula One.”
