German sports broadcaster Sport1 has acquired rights in the country for the World Rally Championship motor-racing series.
The agreement will run for the duration of the 2013 campaign.
Sport1 struck the deal with the Sportsman Media Group agency and the Red Bull Media House production company, the global promoters of the championship.
Sport1 said that it would provide “occasional live coverage” of the series on an exclusive basis during the season in addition to three highlights programmes each race weekend. Sport1 will show 30-minute highlights programmes on Friday and Saturday afternoons from 4pm and a one-hour highlights programme on Sunday evenings from 9pm.
The deal includes television, online and mobile rights.
The broadcaster’s coverage will start with the season-opening championship event in Monte Carlo, Monaco, which begins tomorrow (Thursday).
