Sportdigital snaps up South American football rights

German sports broadcaster Sportdigital has acquired rights for the Copa Libertadores, South American club football’s leading competition, as well as the Copa do Brasil club knockout tournament in Brazil and North and Central American national team qualifying matches for the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

The deals, comprising live and exclusive rights, start immediately and will run through to the end of the 2014 Copa campaign.

The rights for the Copa Libertadores include weekly highlights and a preview programme as well as live coverage.

Sportdigital will show at least 10 World Cup qualifying games from the Concacaf governing body's zone representing North and Central America, excluding US national team home matches.

The broadcaster will show at least 10 domestic cup games in Brazil.

The broadcaster struck the agreements with the Traffic Sports agency.

“Securing the broadcast rights for the Copa Libertadores is the next important step in our programme strategy, ‘Football around the World’,” Sportdigital chief executive Gisbert Wundram said.
