Brazilian pay-television channel SporTV has agreed a deal with rival Fox Sports Brasil to exchange sports rights for several properties between now and 2018, according to the Terra website.
Under the agreement, Fox Sports Brasil will give SporTV exclusive rights for certain games from the Copa Libertadores, South American club football’s leading competition, and non-exclusive rights for other games from the same competition. The agreement will take effect from the 2013 edition of the competition.
In exchange, Fox Sports has been granted rights to the Campeonato Série A, the top division of club football in Brazil. Terra reports that Fox has also been given some rights for the 2014 Fifa World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, both of which are being hosted by Brazil. In addition, Fox Sports has secured the exclusive rights to two games per round from the Copa do Brasil, the domestic football cup competition.
SporTV is owned by Brazilian media group Globo. Fox Sports Brasil is owned by Fox Sports, a subsidiary of US network Fox. Fox Sports Brasil launched in Brazil earlier this year.
