Movistar Plus, the pay-television platform of Spanish telco Telefónica, has acquired rights to the Segunda Division, the second tier of domestic football, and has also added France’s Ligue 1 to its line-up.
The rights for the Segunda Division will run for the forthcoming 2018-19 season, while the length of the Ligue 1 agreement was undisclosed.
The addition of the Segunda Division means Telefónica has now secured rights to the four most prominent football competitions for Spanish viewers, with the top-tier LaLiga and the Uefa Champions League and Europa League already in the telco’s portfolio.
To mark the start of the football season, Telefónica has launched a promotion whereby it will be possible for new and existing customers to receive free access to its football content through to the end of the year.
