Basketball: Brazilian commercial broadcaster Globo is to acquire the rights for the new, top-flight domestic basketball league, Novo Basquete Brasil, for R$1.5m (€474,000/ $633,710) a season. Globo’s free-to-air network will show highlights and sports channel, Sportv, live matches. Globo will also handle communications and sponsorship for the new league, which was formed after the failure of two successive attempts to break away from the national body, the Confederação Brasileira de Basquete.
