Al Jazeera-owned pay-television broadcaster beIN Sport has agreed a partnership with free-to-air and pay-television broadcaster TVB to launch two sports channels in Hong Kong.
BeIN Sport 1 HD and beIN Sport 2 HD will launch on November 1. They will be packaged with the soon to be launched TVB Sport channel which will be the only channel in Hong Kong to broadcast all 64 matches of the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
The launch in Hong Kong marks the next step in beIN Sport’s expansion in Asia, following July’s launch of three beIN Sport channels in Indonesia.
BeIN Sport’s launch on TVB also marks the first time the Hong Kong broadcaster will have offered a comprehensive line-up of sports.
Nasser Al Khelaifi, chairman of beIN Sport, said: “Asia is a very important market for beIN Sport and we hope to continue the pace of expansion as we seek new opportunities for growth. We are very excited about our launch on TVB Network Vision in Hong Kong – always a very significant market with its robust pay-television landscape.”
The channels will provide live coverage of top domestic football divisions such as Italy's Serie A and France's Ligue 1, as well English football's second-tier Championship and North America's Major League Soccer.
