MTV3 agrees MXGP rights deal as Finnish event returns

Commercial and pay-television broadcaster MTV3 has acquired rights in Finland to the FIM Motocross World Championship in a new four-year deal, from 2020 to 2023.

The new deal with Infront Moto Racing, an arm of the Infront agency, coincides with the return of the MXGP of Finland in the 2020 World Championship. The last MXGP event hosted in Finland was in 2014. The MXGP of Finland is set to take place on August 23.

Under the deal, MTV3 will broadcast every ‘Race 2’ from each round of the MXGP season live. It will also have production onsite at the MXGP of Finland, and will broadcast the entire event live. Since 2012, the broadcaster has previously only aired the MXGP magazine show.

This new deal was originally mooted by Infront Moto Racing, under its previous brand name Youthstream, at last year’s Sportel trade fair in Monaco.

Infront has agreed a number of new deals starting in the 2020 season, including with public-service broadcaster Rai in Italy, CBS Sports Network in the US, and motorsport-focused channel Automoto La Chaîne in France.
