Pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland and commercial broadcaster RTL have acquired rights in Germany for the Formula One motor-racing world championship for two years, from 2016 to 2017.
Sky’s deal, which also covers Austria and Switzerland, includes rights on television, IPTV, online and mobile platforms.
Sky said that its coverage would not include commercial breaks in the future, with subscribers of the Sky Go Motorsport digital service also able to watch the action in Germany and Austria.
Sky, which has broadcast F1 in Germany since 1996, added that it would continue to collaborate with sister pay-television broadcasters Sky in the UK and Sky Italia in Italy to enhance coverage of the championship.
RTL’s agreement comprises exclusive free-to-air rights in Germany, where the broadcaster has shown coverage of F1 since 1991.
Both broadcasters will show coverage of practice and qualifying sessions as well as each race and podium ceremony.
