German sports broadcaster Sport1 will show highlights of a series of winter sports competitions on its digital platforms after reaching a new sublicensing agreement.
The deal was agreed with SportA, the sports rights agency of public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF.
The agreement will cover numerous biathlon and Alpine ski World Cup races, as well as World Cup events in the Nordic combined and ski jumping disciplines. The Four Hills Tournament, a ski jumping week that comprises four World Cup events, and the World Ski Flying Championships, have also been included in the deal.
The highlights will be available via the Sport1 app and via the broadcaster’s website this winter. At least 80 different highlights clips will be packaged up for viewers over the course of the 2019-20 season.
ARD and ZDF hold a dominant position in winter sports coverage in Germany. The Infront agency’s current five-year rights deal with ARD and ZDF for International Ski Federation World Cup events in Germany will expire at the end of the 2020-21 season.
